Amazon Bedrock becomes generally available

AWS opens its managed foundation-model service, with model access through the console and application APIs.

By Chat Overview Published Updated

Amazon Web Services made Bedrock generally available, bringing several foundation-model providers into a managed AWS service. Applications access the models through an application programming interface (API), while the console provides playgrounds for testing prompts.

Several models in one AWS account

The launch included models from providers such as Anthropic and Cohere , alongside Amazon's own models. This gives an application a route to compare different models without setting up a separate inference server for each one.

  • Enable the required models through the console's model-access controls.
  • Test chat, text, or image tasks in the model playgrounds.
  • Connect an application through the AWS software development kits.

CloudWatch and CloudTrail integration provide usage monitoring and API activity records.

Availability at launch

Bedrock launched in the US East (Northern Virginia) and US West (Oregon) regions. Some related features, including agents and knowledge bases, remained in preview. General availability of the service did not mean every model or feature was available in every region.

The Amazon Bedrock profile covers current model access, deployment choices, and billing.
