DeepSeek releases V3 and updates its hosted API
DeepSeek V3 brings new downloadable model weights and a hosted API update, with revised pricing scheduled after a launch offer.
DeepSeek released V3 on December 26, 2024. The model used a mixture-of-experts design with 671 billion total parameters and 37 billion active for each token.
Weights and hosted access
DeepSeek released the model and its technical report while updating the hosted API. The announcement said existing API configurations remained compatible. That gave applications an updated hosted model alongside the option to run the released weights in their own infrastructure.
Launch pricing and cache charges
DeepSeek kept the earlier V2 API prices during an introductory period ending February 8, 2025. The announced prices afterward distinguished cached input, uncached input, and generated output.
This made cache behavior part of the expected cost of repeated requests. The release added a larger text model; multimodal support remained a future development in the announcement.
