Perplexity introduces Computer for multi-step work
Computer coordinates models and tools in a background workspace for research, documents, and connected-service tasks.
Perplexity introduced Computer on February 25, 2026. The product coordinated AI models and tools around an intended outcome, rather than only returning a search answer.
Work split into tasks
Computer divided a request into tasks such as web research, document creation, data processing, and calls to connected services. Separate agents could perform parts of the work in the background.
Each task ran in a compute environment with a filesystem, browser, and tool integrations. The system selected models for different parts of a workflow, with the option to choose models for particular subtasks.
Initial subscription access
Computer launched for Perplexity Max subscribers, with Enterprise Max access planned to follow. The release extended Perplexity from answering questions into producing files and carrying out multi-step assignments. The available integrations and models determined the work it could perform.
